Celebrity affair creates career opportunities
It’s not every day the centre of a celebrity scandal comes to town, but sex shows have a way of bringing all kinds of people together.
The 12th annual Taboo sex show is this weekend, and the 20,000 Calgarians expected to pass through its doors over the course of the four-day event should have a lot to take in.
Not the least of which is Michelle “Bombshell” McGee, who gained notoriety two years ago when it was revealed she had an affair with Sandra Bullock’s then-husband, Jesse James.
The self-proclaimed “world’s most notorious mistress” is hitting town for this year’s sex show armed with some simple sex advice.
“Learn how to please yourself first,” McGee says. “If you don’t know what feels good, how will your partner know?”
Taking a break from appearing in seemingly every major tattoo and gossip publication in North America, the performer/model is bringing along a few of her scantily clad friends for a “soft-core” erotic act.
“Our show combines sex, latex and power tools to stimulate your libido, and it’s arousing for guys, girls, straight, gay, alone or with your partner,” she says. “It’s fun for every adult.”
Oh, and about that notorious sex scandal? McGee is refreshingly open about the whole disaster.
“The scandal really turned my life upside down. I will always be known as the tattooed girl who broke up Sandra Bullock’s marriage,” she says. “Being so recognizable has its challenges as well as its benefits. I can’t really go anywhere without being talked about, and because of my tattoos I don’t blend into society too well.”
But, she adds, she’s really enjoying the turn her life has taken.
“I get to travel the world and do what I love most — perform. On the downside, I’m known for doing something really bad, even though I feel I wasn’t in the wrong.”
What remains to be seen is the type of welcoming the “Bombshell” will receive. According to show producer Kevin Blackburn, the Taboo event attracts about 70 per cent women, many of whom no doubt feel more sympathetic towards Bullock.
Blackburn, however, says he was excited when McGee’s schedule opened up and says Calgarians will love the performance.
Besides McGee and her lady friends, the show will also feature burlesque performers, a pole-dancing competition, a tattoo competition, a male revue show, various seminars and, of course, plenty of sex toys and other fun purchases.
“We have anyone and everyone from 18 years old to people in their 60s and 70s,” Blackburn says. “Couples, young, old, straight, gay, experienced or inexperienced. The show is truly for any sexuality — we just want people to come and be themselves, whoever they want to be.”
Blackburn has a little friendly advice for Taboo sex show virgins, though.
“Make lots of time, because there is a lot to see,” Blackburn says. “You have to really set some time aside to see everything there is and some people like to make a night of it with their friends before they go out. It’s a lot of fun.”
