Who: Gareth Edwards

What: An acoustic rocker in the tradition of The Shins' James Mercer, Edwards specializes in handclap-heavy, high energy pop tunes. His upcoming Broken City show will be his debut performance.

When: Thursday, June 17 at Broken City, opening for The Giving Tree
Update: It looks like The Giving Tree is out, and the show is turning into a fundraiser for struggling all-ages venue Comrad Sound, with "Knots, Secret Brothers, The Throwaways, Geister and Craig Fahner from SIDS hosting karaoke." All the more reason to head down.

Why did you decide to start playing shows?
I wrote some songs that some people said were pretty OK, so I decided I would share them. Beats playing by myself in my room. Interpret that as you will.

How would you describe your sound?
A mix of acoustic rock, folk and blues played by a minimally to moderately talented musician.

Why does Calgary need you?
How many guys with acoustic guitars do you know? Like 20? Still not enough.

Where will you be in five years?
Probably back in my room playing other people's songs.

Whose ghost would you most like to be haunted by, and why?
I tried to think of an interesting answer here, but in the end if I'm going to be haunted by someone I never knew it has to be my grandfather.
