Who: Stab.twist.pull
Russ Bauer (guitar), Mike Hoogaars (vocals), Scott McCrea (bass) and Ryan Boyko (drums)
What: Hardcore/rock ’n’ roll quartet Stab.twist.pull has been shredding hard and taking names in Calgary since 2007. Vocalist Mike Hoogars joined in 2008, and current drummer Ryan Boyko completed the linup earlier this year. The band released its Watching the Devil Work EP in early 2010, and should have a full-length ready by the end of the year.
When: Catch them at Dickens Pub on June 11, or Verns on June 22
What brought the band together?
Russ and Scotty have been playing together for a long time now — they started playing together in 2001 in a band called Awake. They connect very well and write great riffs together. As for me, I got introduced to them by a good friend of ours, and when they were looking for a vocalist, I jumped on it. We went through some drummer changes for a bit, and now have found Ryan Boyko, and he fits in really nice.
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound could be anywhere from hardcore mixed with some rock ’n’ roll.
Why does Calgary need you?
Calgary needs us because we’re heavy, and Calgary needs more of that.
Where will you be in five years?
Hopefully still playin’ together as stab.twist.pull
What’s Nicolas Cage’s best movie?
Wild at Heart
