Just got home from checking out Bruce Peninsula at Dicken's Pub (see Pat Boyle's interview with the band here) and... wow. The set opened up with a simple number spotlighting the band's tight vocal harmonies, before launching into an incredibly polished blend of Appalachian folk roots and prog-influenced polyrythms. A brand-new song they debuted at the show epitomized this mix, using unorthodox time signatures without sounding the least bit showy. It was actually fairly jaw-dropping.
The band will be at the Canmore Hotel tomorrow (a venue that I've just learned is sadly going to be disappearing soon -- another reason to head down, if you have half a chance) and will be stopping off in Lethbridge in about a week's time. If you can make it, you really won't be disappointed.
