I'd been hoping to avoid commenting on this, because it seems silly to me, but it looks like the issue's gaining momentum locally. In this month's Beat Route, there is a letter to the editor, credited to "Alan," that's quite critical of Calgary's music scene. Although the letter was run without the writer's last name, it has spread around the local music community that the writer's name is Alan Cho.
Here's where I need to clarify something — Alan Cho, the writer of the letter, is not the Alan Cho who writes for Fast Forward. They are entirely different people. And now, our Alan Cho is getting a lot of undeserved flack — there have reportedly been some T-shirts printed up and parties held just to take shots at him.
Think what you will of the letter that ran in Beat Route — personally, I think it reflects someone who's clearly underinformed about the local scene and unwilling to put in the effort to learn, although that doesn't justify a lot of the nastier responses. But lay off our Alan Cho, at least. He's a good guy. Seriously.
