One of the best scenes in Nerdcore Rising, a documentary on MC Frontalot and geek culture-laded hip hop, was when one of Frontalot's band-mates tries to explain the rules of Magic: The Gathering to the doc's cameraman. A timer pops up at the bottom of the screen, and before you know it, hours of vague rule description have passed.
That nerdiest of games is getting a dose of indie rock cred, though. This Wednesday at 8pm, Sled Island overlords Zak Pashak and Shawn Petsche are organizing an M:TG night, where they'll also be giving away a few free passes to the fest. It's bring your own deck, though, so I'll unfortunately have to sit it out — I was more of a Marvel: Overpower guy back in the day, anyway, and these days my dungeon-crawling card game of choice is something a little sillier.
