Choose Your Own looking for events

Feel like there's just too many festivals around? Are they are blurring together? Well, one of the more unique ones in town is Choose Your Own Festival, which basically allows folks to do whatever the heck they want, as long as it makes for an interesting event. They're looking for event submissions right now; it's a pretty sweet idea, and a great way to get involved with local arts. Here's their press release:

Choose Yer Own
a collaborative festival
August 13 - 16, 2009

ATTENTION: MESS MAKERS, RABBLE ROUSERS, TREE CLIMBERS, TROUBLE CAUSERS, BIKE RIDERS, URBAN ENTHUSIASTS, AND OTHER CREATIVELY DRIVEN FOLK!

Choose Yer Own festival seeks ideas for unconventional or unusual events to be included in its 2009 installment. Choose Yer Own festival, happening this August 13th - 16th, is a collaborative festival - anyone can put on an event, and events can be anything (beat boxing seminars, pudding fights, shows, giant islands of sand... you name it). Ideas that are all ages, locally focused, and involve collaboration are preferable. Choose Yer Own, named after "Choose your own adventure" novels, programs and promotes all events, as well as providing support and connecting participants to resources already present in the community. This can include participants, volunteers, equipment, and venues. The festival encourages the use of alternative venues, and unless site specific will program the venue, date, and time of proposed events.

The festival itself is structured like a real life choose-your-own-adventure. Each day there will be a series of events located throughout the city. Participants are encouraged (through mapping, bike support, convoys, and the overall structure) to travel by bike from event to event, choosing between two options at every turn. Events, though supported by the festival, are created and run by the artists/enthusiasts who submit. Bios for the artists as well as event descriptions will be available on the website. Events that involve having fun as a group are the most successful (examples are games, shows, and parades), but really, anything goes.

Submission deadline is: Wednesday June 17th, 2009
