Sled Island: The Wheels Fell Off

OK, this is going to be a short one. I don't even want to think about thinking right now. Last night was a wild, wild, wild party. This is going to be in list form, because I am lazy and hung the crap over:

  • As expected, Monotonix at Tubby Dog was absurd. The show came outside, albeit briefly, and there was crowd surfing and insanity. Then when things moved back inside, I manged to "insinuate myself" into the crush through the crowd and ended up getting absolutely destroyed in the mosh pit. Wow. I am too old for mosh pits, btw.
  • The show at Olympic Plaza was fantastic. The beer gardens was absolutely brimming with revelers, who enjoyed fantastic sets from the likes of Holy Fuck, Liars, and the Breeders. Tragically, I was too late to see Biz Markie or Malajube, but I'll get to see at least one of those tonight...
  • Dead Science played the absolute standout set of the festival, playing a pristine set drawn predominantly from last year's fantastic Villainaire record. It's a damn shame that there were only about 20 people watching from the floor, but with so many amazing shows going on at the same time, that does tend to happen... Anyways, to make a long story short, they ended up sleeping on my living room floor and in exchange they gave me a copy of their record, which I'm listening to right now.

After that, things get kind of hazy as far as my memory is concerned. I'm pretty sure I saw HEALTH at the Marquee Room, but I couldn't tell you how it sounded (sorry)

Then, this morning, I took the Dead Science dudes for breakfest at 1886 and went to the show at Local 510, where I saw Vancouver's No Gold and festival curator Colin Newman's Githead. You guys... it was so good. Drinking in the morning doesn't always seem like a good idea, but I assure you it is.

Now, I must steel myself for today's festival antics. I have almost as many after-parties to attend as I do actual shows.
