After reaching out to sponsors in November — with its fate in 2011 then uncertain — it's now confirmed: Sled Island is back for its fifth year.
Announced amidst the news of Coachella's lineup (or, even better, Brochella's, um, stacked roster), Sled Island has revealed that the festival will run from Wednesday, June 22 to Saturday, June 25. Sled Island hasn't announced the source of its funding yet, although it posted this on its Facebook page: "All systems go. Thank you Govt of Alberta and city of Calgary for your arts support."
Also on its website, the festival is expected to announce a new director and curators along with a its roster of performers. Lest we forget, last year's iteration was curated by locals Adam Kamis and Kallen Law, King Khan, Quintron and recently announced Wedge host Damian Abraham — no doubt, the mind responsible for having Fucked Up, GZA, No Age and Hunter Gatherer performing in the same building. Don't even try to pretend that's a bad thing.
Anyhow, Sled Island is also accepting band applications for 2011. Sleep not.
