I'm not even sure it can be called news at this point, but a press release was sitting in my inbox stating Ward 12 Ald. Ric McIver will announce his intentions for the 2010 mayoralty race this evening. McIver will launch his new vision for Calgary at Ric's Block Party, a $150 ticket affair, at the Ramsay Exchange.
Interestingly, Tom Flanagan, political scientist/strategist/Stephen Harper mentor/lover of all things free market, will provide an introduction for McIver. I imagine the words true, conservative, and leader, will be used without restraint in a variety of combinations.
McIver is the fourth candidate person to announce his mayoral ambitions. Fellow alderman Joe Connelly jumped into the race last week. In March, former alderman and Tory MLA Jon Lord and food activist Paul Hughes told Calgarians they want the to sit in the big chair.
More to come...
