Oops. This is so embarrassing. It's never happened before. I swear. You just get me so worked up Calgary that I can't control myself.
Chalk it up to first-time jitters or over enthusiasm, but someone in Ald. Joe Connelly's camp prematurely activated his "JoeForMayor" website all over the Internet — 24 hours before Connelly was set to officially make the announcement.
The "lorem ipsum" policy came out of nowhere, but it's good to see someone is finally addressing this bothersome issue.
This makes the one-term alderman for Ward 6 the third (at last count) candidate to officially announce his intention to run for the mayor's seat this fall. Paul Hughes and former alderman Jon Lord jumped into the ring in March. Other likely candidates in this all-sausage affair include: Ald. Ric McIver, Ald. Bob Hawkesworth, former Shell exec Wayne Stewart, Alnoor Kassam, MRU prof Naheed Nenshi, and former alderman Craig Burrows.
***UPDATE***
The JoeForMayor website was removed shortly after this blog post appeared. Here's a screenshot I managed to grab before it disappeared into the ether.

I, for one, am disappointed in Connelly's apparent disdain for the apostrophe. Maybe he's trying to say he prefers plurality over possessiveness. In any case, I won't "Join Joes Team" :-)
