Beat Niq back on track, owner says

Here's a bit of good news for local jazz fans. Rob Young, owner of the Beat Niq Jazz and Social Club, says his venue has a bright future in the city after a successful membership drive put the club on solid financial footing.

As reported in Fast Forward, in August the Beat Niq warned that it was in danger of closing because of financial troubles. Club staff made a public call for support, and Young says that last month, the Beat Niq sold 380 memberships during a three-day gala organized to save the club.

“It was really overwhelming to have that support not only from the jazz fans, but the arts community in general.”

Young says the club is within 50 memberships of reaching its goal of selling 500. “We’re darn close.”

That success is good for now, but it begs the question of what happens when this money runs out? Are they changing their business model? I think I read your original story but I don't recall any changes on the horizon.

Time will tell, I suppose.
