Folk fest headliner Michael Franti too sick to perform

Bad news. Michael Franti won't be playing the folk fest tonight. The festival just put out this press release:

Change to July 23 Folk Festival program

The Folk Festival has just learned that Michael Franti, slated to perform with his band Spearhead, has fallen ill and is no longer able to appear at the Calgary Folk Music Festival and close the Thursday July 23 mainstage.

Mr. Franti and the Festival are both disappointed with this sudden turn of events. Michael Franti’s first performance at a Canadian Festival was here in 2002 and he returned in 2004.

‘There’s a strong history between us and Michael Franti so we wish him well and look forward to working with him in the future,” said Kerry Clarke, Artistic Director of the Calgary Folk Music Festival.

The Folk Festival will soon announce an addition to the strong Thursday night line-up, which features Iron and Wine, Justin Rutledge, Umalali and Los Misioneros.

Unused Thursday night single day tickets (not part of a weekend pass) refunds available at point of purchase – Ticketmaster or the Folk Festival office starting Wednesday July 29, 2009.
