Reviews to help you through the hit-or-miss loveliness that is the Calgary Fringe Festival

Crystal Ball

Crystal Ball, Lantern Church Basement, Saturday, 1:30

First of all, I'm so glad to see one of Calgary's community theatre groups has an entry in the Fringe.  And, appropriately, this show is best suited for people who have participated in community theatre before.

To be frank, much of the humour will likely be lost on the "general public," as it deals with the trials and tribulations of staging a production in which most people wear multiple hats, while balancing day jobs and dealing with low, low budgets.

Crystal Ball drives home the fact these people are doing theatre for one main reason:  the sheer love of it.  This show will have even more resonance for those who are familiar with the people behind Gas & Light productions.  All in all, Crystal Ball is good, gentle fun.
