Pecha Kucha and emerging photographers

There are two opportunities for you to make your voice heard on cultural happenings in Calgary. Exposure film festival is looking for the best emerging photographer in Calgary through its 2013 Vistek Emerging Photographer Showcase, and Calgary Arts Development would like you to weigh in on its lineup for Pecha Kucha Night Calgary #15.

Photographers are encouraged to submit their five best photos and a short biography to emergingphotographers2013@gmail.com no later than Decmeber 31. Ten finalists will be selected by a panel of judges and then uploaded to the Exposure website. Online voting on those ten will determine who walks away with a prize and bragging rights. You must be under 30 and living in Alberta to enter. There's also a runner-up and a people's choice award. Think you can standout from the Instagram crowd?

The winners will be announced at Exposure closing party on February 28 at Endeavor Art Gallery.

If you haven't been to a Pecha Kucha Night, you really should. Speakers are allowed 20 slides and speak for 20 seconds on each, leading to quick, thoughtful presentations on a theme. The 15th installation of Calgary's event is an all-star affair, selecting the best speakers from previous events. To vote for who you'd like to see speak, head over here.

The selected speakers will be able to rehash their original presentation or select a topic based on one of the previous themes — creative spacmaking, how we live together, rebuild, failure, the west, one, verge, reclaim, two, eureka, seed or invest.

The event will take place on February 22 at the Boyce Theatre as part of the Arts Champions Congress.
