Pussy Riot “Putin Light Up the Flames”
Earlier today, three members of feminist performance art group Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in prison for “hooliganism” because of a piece they did earlier this year. The whole situation is straight-up bullshit, but the members who aren’t locked away have bounced back with a raging new punk track called “Putin Light Up the Flames.”
White Lung “Bag” video
To keep up the feminist snarl, occasional Fast Forward Weekly contributor Mish Way and her band White Lung have just dropped a video for “Bag,” the certified hit off of their fantastic LP Sorry. Watch as the band members get kidnapped and dragged through the forest.
King Tuff “Alone and Stoned” video
If you’d rather be a little more laid back, King Tuff’s new video for “Alone and Stoned” is what you want. A literal interpretation of the song, the clip is basically just shots of Tuff and some of his friends hanging out in their respective bedrooms. And that’s perfectly okay.
Animal Collective “Everything’s Supernatural” video
For the rest of my life, I will probably always be an Animal Collective apologist. The band’s line-straddling between pop music and weirdness has made them one of the most interesting acts of their generation. With that in mind, the video for their excellent track “Everything’s Supernatural” is worth a watch.
Mount Eerie “Ocean Roar”
Back when everyone was slightly dumber, Mount Eerie used to fall under the same blecch-worthy “freak folk” umbrella as Animal Collective. Thankfully we don’t use words like that any more. Whatever sub-subgenre you want to call it, there’s no denying that Phil Elverum is on some next level songwriting and production with this new track, from his forthcoming LP of the same name.
