CPO retirement

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra announced the retirement of its concermaster, Cenek Vrba, who has been a member of the Orchestra for over three decades.

Vrba, who joined the CPO in 1975, is one of Canada's top violinists and has won many awards during his career.

"Ten years ago I suffered a very serious arm injury, which took six months to heal sufficiently for me to return to the CPO," Vrba says. "With medical help I was able to continue my orchestral performing career until three weeks ago, when it became clear to me that I could no longer sustain the heavy workload as concertmaster at CPO."

The CPO is now implementing a search for a new concertmaster.
