Sled Island 2011: 50 more names announced

By now, you're surely aware of Sled Island's first round of announcements — that includes Braids (who played here last Wednesday), stoner-rock icons Sleep, the effortless cool of Dandy Warhols, and, um, the fucking Buzzcocks.

But now, Nation of Ulysses' Ian Svenonius — an excellent, left-field curator if there was one — Grant Lawrence, Bogus Tokus and Sled's braintrust have released 50 more names coming to Calgary this summer.

From Sled Island's blog, here are the names (and that video above is Justin Townes Earle's "The Good Life." Just because):

Very glad to see a lot of of these--especially Wild Flag, Parts & Labor, Neil Hamburger (yes!), Kurt Vile, Crocodiles, Zola Jesus ... I was extremely underwhelmed with the initial headliners (the Dandy Warhols? Seriously?) and was a bit concerned that this was shaping up to be Sled Island 2000 (i.e., bands that haven't released anything notable or, y'know, GOOD since 2000), but SI has pulled through with some great--and most importantly, RELEVANT--mid-level bands this time around. Stoked.

Sleep? Seriously? and Surf City is pretty good. I wouldn't worry about the initial headliners. Last year they announced Hot Water music and one year Jonathon Richmand
