Demonika’s Symphony of Horrors VI Infernal Emergency is about to take the city by storm Friday night. Calgary’s very own Danika “Demonika” Challand says this year is the 10th anniversary for the popular underground cultural event.
“We are going above and beyond to try and do as much as we can that will not be expected,” Demonika says of this year’s medical themed show. “It’s a giant mixing pot of Calgary’s finest artists and performers”
With about 100 people involved in the production, Demonika says the show is unlike any in Western Canada.
“It’s a huge chunk of Calgary’s creative scene and that in itself is pretty impressive. There’s no one else out there offering what we do at our caliber.”
Demonika’s shows first started in 2002 and since then has grown into somewhat of a staple in the city’s underground scene. The show itself is a cabaret-styled nighttime macabre following in the tradition of burlesque, traveling freak shows, alternative lifestyle, fashion and body piercing and so much more.
This is a show where guests will witness performers pushing the boundaries of their art forms and perhaps indulge in some themselves, as there will something happening throughout the entire venue.
The last five large shows had approximately 500 guests attend. “We’ve got such a diverse collection of individuals collaborating on this project, we’re ready to blow everyone away,” Demonika says.
Those who attend the show every year say it always sells out and is always a wild time! Demonika’s Symphony of Horrors VI Infernal Emergency is Friday, March 25 at The Distillery and tickets are available at Blame Betty. For those who miss the show or can’t get enough, it also will hit Edmonton on March 26th.
