Just a heads up on an excellent all-local show: Art School and Weigh Anchors kick off their Canadian tour tonight at the Marquee Room with Christopher Gheran. There are plenty of folky delights here, but neither band sounds particularly similar; Art School's overt twang is tinged a distant dreamlike quality, something reinforced, at times, by absentee slide guitar. The band has three new songs posted on Myspace — check them out.

Weigh Anchors — a Dillon Whitfield project, formerly of Jane Vain and the Dark Matter — has its core rooted in pop, although it can veer into weirder territories (Take "Keepers," for instance, which could be an Entire Cities song on valium).
