I'mma be honest -- I don't know what I'm doing today.
(Also, I'm using "I'mma" because Kanye is playing tonight and I'm excited...to not even come close to getting in.)
Or something.
Truth told, what I really want to do is hit the Flatstock show. And I think that's definitely going to be part of my day.
Flatstock is to poster collectors what SXSW is to rich hipsters and corporations music fans: A place where a bunch of the best of the best come together to make your day orgasmic and amazing. Flatstock 29 is co-presented by the American Poster Institute and is, until 6 p.m. today, showcasing the kinds of work I want need on my wall.
Also, despite the Jersey Shores, the Rebecca Blacks, the Westboro Baptist Hatemongers and the awful, evil New York Yankees, I will never completely give up on the United States of America as long as there's a thing here called the American Poster Institute. Speaking of the API (nerd joke!) here's a bit about them, pulled from the official text at the SXSW site:
The American Poster Institute is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to serving the poster artist community and promoting the art form. The Flatstock shows provide the American Poster Institute with a way to present poster artists collectively while showcasing the breadth of styles they represent.
Awesome? Yes. I can't wait to buy some merch. There was a Ra Ra Riot poster that I had my little eye on and if someone's bought it up I'mma choke a bitch (that's a Wayne Brady/Dave Chappelle reference/joke if you're about to get mad at me).
After the poster show, well, I'll be honest (damn, I missed an "I'mma" chance), I think I'm going to look for a taco.
Strangely enough (or, maybe not strangely at all), people have really responded to my taco-related post(s). In turn, I really feel the need to honour that excitement and eat my face off today. Hopefully there will be a plethora of taco trucks/vendors around the Canadian stuff today because it is plentiful and it is awesome.
M For Montreal and Brooklyn Vegan are throwing the big one. It's a day party at Barbarella & Swan Dive from noon (i.e. 15 minutes from now) 'til 6 featuring the likes of Malajube, PS I Love You, Austra, Suuns, and Little Scream.
Not to be outdone, the M For Montreal/CBC Radio 3 day party at Red Eye Fly (like, a hop, skip and a jump away) features, among others, Cadence Weapon, Hollerado, Valleys and Uncle Bad Touch.
Tonight, I have three specific missions:
1) Try and get into the Kanye show with Stef Campbell.
2) See Jessie Stein and The Luyas, who are probably among my 10 favourite acts at SXSW.
3) Dance.
I haven't danced nearly enough down here at SXSW. A few nights ago I ended up watching some DJs, and there have been many (seized) opportunities to throw down at hip hop shows (Doomtree, Shunda K, Shad...) but I want to like, full on, absomapositivelutely get my groove on.
I mean, seriously, how much longer are my hip joints going to work properly?
