SXSW: Searching for the perfect taco

I have, over the past 32 years, devoted my life to many things.

First there was that whole crawling thing, then the walking thing. Later on I had to learn how to play soccer, well, so as to not disappoint my family. And later still I had to devote my considerable faculties towards learning to ollie, ascertaining how exactly to talk to girls (without pissing my pants and/or passing out), and of course, let's not forget my ongoing devotion/addiction to fantasy baseball.

These days, while I'm down in Austin for SXSW, my life mission du jour/semaine is simple: Eat as many tacos as possible, and rank 'em from top to bottom. This isn't as simple/fun as it sounds.

Austin, Texas, and Texas, period, has within its boundaries no less than a billion taco joints serving something like 400 million different kinds of tacos. On our first night, my late night, just before bed snack: Street Tacos from Taco Cabana (grilled skirt steak).

(I had dreams about ex-girlfriends and tidal waves.)

Last night, my get-through-another-few-hours-without-dying snack that I got from what looked like a family operation, where all the food trucks are on Red River. A bunch of SXSWers were lined up for the Roppolo's Pizza truck and these lovely people serving brisket, pulled pork and chicken tacos looked lonely. So I went over for some tacos and water.

Hot damn were these things good. Covered in steaming queso and only $3, they were good for what ailed me. I had one (chicken) before hitting the Doomtree set at Mohawk Patio, and one (pulled pork) afterwards, a few hours before bedding down for the soir.

(I had dreams about going to see The Sadies.)

Thing is, right now I don't know what the next step is. I have it on good authority that when I go to Torchy's I will be sufficiently impressed, too (Jaclyn, I'm trusting you here, in print no less).

But where else should I go?

If you have a good idea, or a bad idea and are looking to hurt me, please, comment below.
