SXSW: Eric Warner gets busy

If you don't yet know Eric Warner, perhaps you should. The squealy singer of Neon Windbreaker, he's also a part-time gallery curator, sometimes stand-up comedian band manager for many (including Meligrove Band and By Divine Right) and, well, the CEO of We Are Busy Bodies, which is the label CityTV say you wishes you built.

Sure, that's a wee exaggerated. But the stats don't lie: WABB has released, amongst others, records by Japan's Zoobombs, Baltimore's The Death Set, Oshawa, Ont.'s Cuff the Duke and the heavily hyped art-rock combo DD/MM/YYYY. He's also assembled one of the year's best singles clubs, with releases from Rich Aucoin, AIDS Wolf, Rich Aucoin and way, way more artists that you're better off knowing. Neon Windbreaker, along with Warner, might be labelled industry-handshake supergroup, featuring Spinner scribe Jon Dekel and and members bands that get name-checked by wannabe bloggers and club photographers. Not that we'll get into that here.

Indeed, if Warner was a Calgarian, he'd certainly be on some magazine's top 49 under 49 (or some shit).

At SXSW, he unveiled one of the fest's best showcases — with Japather, Zoombombs, Doldrums and Forest City Lovers performing — and well, unleashed Sloan covers on anyone who'd listen.

In his own words:
