After Taylor (Makinna Ridgeway) falls out with her boyfriend, she drowns her sorrows, falling into the arms of a curious stranger named Wyatt (Quincy Newton) in the process. When she wakes in his RV, miles from anywhere, she’s left to wonder what he’s up to. When director René Brar isn’t doting on the landscape of the Canadian Rockies or offering seemingly endless shots of the RV on the highway, he tries hard to create an anti-thriller of sorts.
Of course, this concept only works if you’re willing to accept Taylor’s behaviour. Unfortunately, each of her head-scratching decisions cement the feeling that she deserves whatever tragic fate she has coming. There are times where the methodical pace is successfully unsettling, but more often than not, Brar pads the film with shots of his two leads walking through the forest. The 11th hour twist isn’t nearly as satisfying as it needs to be, nor is its lead-up, for that matter. At only 75 minutes, Taylor’s Way feels woefully drawn out.
