The city has approved a change to its planned west C-Train route to placate area residents. The train will now run down the middle of Bow Trail, instead of on an elevated platform as the city had previously proposed. The change could cost the city an extra $86 million more than the $700 million already approved for the project. A further demand from angry residents to bury the line along 17th Ave. S.W. has yet to be debated.
Local resident began raising concerns about the line a few weeks ago. Their main complaint was that they didn’t want to be forced to look at the train from their houses, and preferred that the city spend the extra money to put the LRT underground.
The train will run west from downtown along Bow Trail, enter a tunnel beneath Westbrook Mall, and re-emerge on 17th Ave. The line would continue west past Sarcee Trail to 69th St. S.W. (AM)
