Town faces heat for trying to sell parks

Sundre’s town council landed in hot water when citizens discovered a plan to sell off six of the town’s 14 parks, plus a soccer field. Sundre’s town hall was filled with people for an October 15 council meeting in which members of the public voiced their opinions against the plan, ultimately forcing council to reject it.

Three of the parks are equipped with playgrounds. The town administration also proposed building a doctor’s residence on one green space. The total value of the parks is estimated by administration to be $400,000.

Another town hall meeting will be held on December 17 to discuss the fate of the parks and the Sundre Recreation Master Plan.
