Calgary writer to see his work on silver screen

Cannes Grand Prix winner buys rights to Craig Davidson's Rust and Bone

Calgary-based writer Craig Davidson will see his work on the big screen, now that Cannes Grand Prix winner Jacques Audiard recently bought the movie rights to Davidson’s short story collection, Rust and Bone.

It’s a gritty collection of stories about a savage world, including fighting dogs, sex addicts and gamblers – common ground that Davidson says he shares with Audiard.

“We share an interest in themes of masculinity and crime and grubby low-down lives that are nonetheless lived with notes of grace and dignity,” he says, adding that he is interested to see how Audiard links the disparate stories or if he chooses to focus solely on one.

In the meantime, Davidson will continue driving a Calgary school bus (“the best job I’ve ever had”), pursue his writing and keep his fingers crossed.
