Republik slated to reopen in old spot

December, January shows planned for 17th Ave. S.W. venue

The Republik on 17th Ave. S.W. is slated to move and reopen again, more than 18 months after the live music venue ran into trouble with the city and shut its doors.

Shows are planned for the Republik in December and January, and press materials list the address as 219 17 Avenue S.W., the club’s location in the ’90s (most recently occupied by Tequila Nightclub).

After the Republik closed in 2000, it reopened in the historic Model Milk building across the street in 2007, then suddenly closed months afterwards. The city says the club didn’t have a valid business licence and did interior renovations that didn’t comply with development permits.

Matthias Tita, a planning manager for the city, says city staff will meet with the Republik this week to “clarify what the plan is.” Club owner Victor Choy didn’t return repeated calls.

Awesome, was hoping Victor Choy would open yet another place! And he's going to call it "Republik"... Wonderful!
