The Alberta government is revamping their “help us find” website to make it easier for Albertans to turn in deadbeat parents.
The new website features an interactive map, divided into regions, and a slideshow of the 10 worst child support debtors in the province, who collectively owe $1.6 million.
“We want to generate a renewed interest. These are people who have intentionally neglected their obligations,” Alberta Justice’s Alison Burns says.
Stephen Jenuth, president of the Alberta Civil Liberties Association, doubts the effectiveness of the retooled website.
“It’s a lot of public relations and not very much real use. I’m not sure that when someone moves in next door you go and check if that person is on the list,” he says.
