Downtown hotel up for historic designation

Decision would protect Alberta Hotel from demolition

The Alberta Hotel Building on Stephen Avenue will likely be deemed a historic building by city council.

A bylaw to designate the building as a municipal historic resource will go to council on Monday, May 25. If passed, the site would be protected from demolition and any renovation would have to be approved by the city.

“It is as important to look at the past as it is to look at the future,” Ald. Druh Farrell says of the building that houses Murrieta’s Bar & Grill as well as Out There’s outdoor shop.
