Health cases in limbo

Patients were turned down for out-of-country funding

Four patients are anxiously waiting for word on whether an appeal health panel will reconsider their cases, after being turned down for out-of-country health funding.

This is the second time Alberta ombudsman Gord Button has asked the panel to hear the cases. The panel, which missed the July 10 deadline to respond to Button’s report on the out-of-country health services program, told Button that it will meet on July 29 to discuss the cases.

“The process was flawed, it was not administratively fair and these citizens deserve to have a fair outcome of their application,” Button says.
