Local activists working to keep urban poverty on the news and political agendas are inviting Calgarians to attend two upcoming events.
On Thursday, January 24, a rally on the steps of city hall at noon will show support for homeless women. Two days later, on Saturday, January 26, the Calgary District Labour Council and Alberta College of Social Workers is hosting a public meeting on poverty as part of the Poverty Talks series. “We’re trying to provide some space for people to talk about the issues they’re experiencing in the city,” says Grant Neufeld, the co-ordinator for Poverty Talks. The meeting will be from noon to 2 p.m. in the meeting room by the periodicals section of the W. R. Castell Central Library. Food, beverages and transit tickets will be provided.
