Election Facebook smackdown

Calgary’s municipal election isn’t only being fought with pamphlets and roadside signs. Many candidates have employed Facebook, the popular social networking website, as a way to reach potential voters — especially young voters. We realize Facebook isn’t an accurate way of gauging a candidate’s popularity, but the numbers do show who’s been actively campaigning online and who hasn’t. One thing is clear: incumbents are getting walloped in the Facebook smackdown.

Here’s the breakdown as of Tuesday, October 9. (These numbers are taken from each campaign’s group — not the candidate’s number of personal friends, which is generally lower than the group number.)
