Council orders review of city pathways

Study long overdue says cycling advocate

City council has voted to develop a comprehensive cycling strategy and conduct a safety review of Calgary’s pathway system, a move welcomed by the city’s cycling community.

The 10-year-old plan needs an overhaul, says Seth Petrie, a co-ordinator with the Calgary tour de nuit Society. “It’s nice to see they’re willing to dedicate some time and effort to develop a proper strategy for the city,” he says, adding that it needs to do more than create on-street bike lanes that “start and end in the middle of nowhere.”

Administration has until June to report to back to council.
