Cop charged with breaking jaw

A Calgary police officer is facing criminal charges for brutality, less than three months after two of his peers were suspended for allegedly using excessive force. Const. Sean Hasson was charged with aggravated assault on July 17 for allegedly breaking a man's jaw and eardrum while arresting him at a northeast bar. The police are also holding an internal investigation into the incident. Hasson and other police were called to the bar the night of December 9, 2005 to remove an unruly patron, who later complained that Hasson used excessive force on him.

Last May, the police force suspended Consts. J. Schneider and B. VanHereweghe and launched an internal investigation into their conduct at the arrest of Koney Okpoti. A videotape of the arrest showed one officer punching Okpoti in the head, forcefully planting his knee in his back and clapping his hand over the man's mouth while he was handcuffed.
