City promises to keep pesticide bylaw on track

Bylaw department briefly considered delaying until March

The city’s pesticide bylaw is back on track after city officials considered delaying it.

Calgary bylaw chief Bill Bruce says his department talked about waiting until next March to give city council a draft bylaw, but ultimately decided to keep the original October timeline.

Anti-pesticide activists were worried by talk of delay, and are pleased to hear the bylaw will be on schedule. Ald. Brian Pincott, who spearheaded the bylaw, believes it will be in force by year’s end. “I’m working very hard to ensure that it stays on track.”

The bylaw would ban pesticide use on private land by the end of 2010 and the city is to stop using pesticides when the bylaw is approved.

This is really great news, hopefully it won't be delayed at all. But knowing many of our aldermen/women....
