The recent sudden loss of two young Calgarians has left a gaping hole in the city’s arts and music community.
Marsha Ellen Meidow, a well-known director and advocate for homeless women, was laid to rest on January 12. Six days earlier, she died from a brain aneurysm. Meidow who produced and co-directed the Vagina Monologues, also worked as a counsellor for the YWCA.
To help cover funeral costs, donations are being accepted until the end of March on behalf of Meidow’s partner Tank Standing Buffalo and family. Donations can be made through PayPal on a Facebook event page: In Memory of Marsha Ellen Meidow.
As well, local musician Ryan Fox was struck by a vehicle while crossing Ninth Ave. S.E. in Inglewood on January 7. Fox, 34, who played guitar for the NightStalkers, later died in hospital.
Police say Fox tried to cross the middle of a street, which had poor visibility for drivers. No charges will be laid in the accident.
Our condolences go out to the families and friends of Meidow and Fox.
