Bob Rae, former Ontario NDP premier and Liberal candidate for Toronto Centre, is coming to Calgary to host a town hall meeting on immigration and crime.
The meeting will be at Liberal Calgary Northeast candidate Sanam Kang’s campaign headquarters (#42, 55 Castleridge Blvd. N.E.) at 7:30 p.m. October 3. “Those are two really big issues that we’re finding at the doors,” says Kang. “For example, if we doorknock after 8 o’clock, people just don’t even open the doors once it’s dark. People don’t feel so safe anymore, especially in the northeast.” Kang says people living in his riding are also concerned about the long waiting list for would-be family class immigrants — spouses and siblings of Canadian residents that want to move to Canada. “There’s a waiting list of over 500,000 cases, so there’s basically zero movement,” says Kang.
Earlier in the day October 3, Rae will participate in a public forum on health care at the Foothills Hospital’s Clara Christie Theatre at 4 p.m. Former prime minister Paul Martin will also be speaking at a Liberal rally at the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre (197 1 Street S.W.) that day at noon.
