Website calls for Calgary Beer to come home

'It was a major part of our cultural fabric for so long'

Calgary Beer. Don’t feel bad if you have never heard of it. The Molson suds aren’t actually sold in Calgary. Or even in Alberta, for that matter. It’s brewed in Toronto. And the only place you can buy Calgary Beer is Saskatchewan.

But Darren Havelock is trying to change that with his website mycalgarybeer.ca, which urges Calgarians to contact Molson to bring the beer, first brewed by the Calgary Brewery in the late 1800s, home.

“It was a major part of our cultural fabric for so long,” Havelock says. “We want the logo back in the city.” And it tastes pretty good too.

Molson says Calgary Beer was discontinued in Calgary about a decade ago because of lack of demand but it doesn’t rule out bringing it back if there is enough consumer demand.
