ALBERTA RAMPS UP NUCLEAR POWER PLAN

Energy Alberta Corporation has formally applied to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to build two 1,100 megawatt Advanced CANDU Reactors near Peace River in northwestern Alberta.
Activist groups including the prairie chapter of the Sierra Club, the Peace River Environmental Society, CAUSE Calgary, Albertans Against Nuclear Energy and the West Athabasca Bioregional Society vow to step up campaigns against the application.
“Nuclear energy is not safe, not green, not clean and not economical,” says Leila Darwish of the Sierra Club. “It is an unnecessary risk for Alberta. Nuclear power plants leave a deadly legacy.” (AS)
