There seems to be a real silence on the part of the left in Calgary when it comes to Human Rights violations and killings in Iran. When Bush comes to town these people all come out in droves. Yet when the Mullah government thugs in Iran arrest journalists and take people from their hospital beds or club and shoot innocent demonstrators, there is no public outcry from these people. Local Iranian members are brave enough to come out, though.
Calgary-based antiwar spokesperson Collette Lemiux, who has been quoted calling our soldiers in Afghanistan “murderers,” seems to have no problem remaining quite in the face of Islamic fascism in Iran. Will these weak-kneed liberals call a rally to bring attention to the horrors in Iran? I don’t advise you hold your breath on it, as it could be a long time. Because when Hamas kills other Arabs, or Iranian Muslims kill other Muslims, that’s not for us to interfere or comment on, says the left.
I can easily spell hypocrisy and I can see now what it looks like, too.

If they brought Ahmadinejad to Calgary the same people would be out protesting him and his crimes against his own people. Heck, I didn't attend the bush rallies, but I'd attend that one.
If there was a protest for every situation in which human rights are being violated, there would be a permanent protest happening downtown.
Considering that the biggest outlet of these protests is online - the best place for us to show our support is online, which many of these "week-kneed liberals" have already been doing.
Each situation calls for a different response. Attending, or organizing a rally is only one option. Pretending that it's always the right choice is myopic.

Also, the comments about Ms. Lemieux are a personal attack and really didn't deserve the ink used to print them. Mr. Terleski obviously has an axe to grind with her and your paper should not be a space for that to happen.

I am not sure whether there have been or are any protests planned locally, but from reading various sources online, the left has been far from silent and had shown great support for the will of Iran's people well before it became a huge story.
