Re: “Politicians should speak out against racism,” by Clea Foofat, Letters, April 17-23, 2008.
I would like to point out the obvious to Clea Foofat that racism comes in the form of all colours. In a city of one million citizens, if only 25 white supremacists can be marshalled on a sunny spring day, that's a pretty good indicator of just how marginal white supremacism is in Canada. Where were you, the mainstream media or the big bad Anti-Racist Action (ARA) for that matter, where was the outrage, when more than 1,000 Muslim radicals marched through Calgary chanting “death to the Jews,” flying the flag of the terrorist group Hezbollah and dancing on Canadian war memorials? Unlike the 25 impotent white supremacists, this jihadist mob tried to break and enter the U.S. consulate and the Harry Hays building, too. Not surprisingly, the faux anti-racists who were brave enough to stand up to the faux fascists that weekend were nowhere to be found when the Islamists were rallying. Foofat is right. It's not a complicated concept. Well, maybe for some.
