Inner-city residents now have easy access to local farmers’ market goodies thanks to GreenFest Calgary. GreenFest can be found downtown on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at Tomkin’s Park on 17 Ave. S.W. on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The free festival features local performers like DeMayo, Barley Wik and The Goodtime Boys, as well as vendors selling BC fruit and vegetables, coffee and teas, bread, baked goods and organic skin care Other vendors include green experts from Bull Frog Power, Green Party of Canada and Sierra Club Chinook Group. GreenFest hits Calgary streets as a one-year pilot project put on by the Calgary Downtown Association and Uptown 17th Avenue Business Revitalization Zone with funding from the city of Calgary. The aim of GreenFest is to see Calgary’s streets and parks used in a new way and to make farmers and their produce more accessible to downtown residents.
