Canada’s next “mooove” on BSE

U of C’s Science Café speaker series brings research to the public

Have you been wondering what’s going on with BSE (commonly known as mad cow disease) in Canada? Check out the next Science Café presentation What’s the Beef with BSE? BSE and CJD: Canada's next mooove on March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Unicorn Pub.

Pubs have historically been public houses where important discussions with community members would take place. Take part in the conversation, and join guest expert Dr. Josephine Smart as well as Dr. Stefanie Czub from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and moderator Dr. Patrick Feng. Smart is currently wrapping up a team project in Alberta examining the social and economic impact of BSE, and focusing on Canada’s support of beef farmers since the outbreak. Presented in partnership between the University of Calgary and the Telus World of Science, Science Café is a forum that gives the public a chance to discuss important science topics in an informal setting.

Next week, Fast Forward’s Lifestyles page will feature a look at a new national study on farm and ranch community health in the wake of the BSE crisis.
