I’m too old for this shit. Metal is a pretty extensive genre, but this “metalcore” stuff is just a complete mish-mash of as much crap you can find at an all-ages show. A Hero A Fake seem to have recorded bits and pieces from about seven bands, thrown those bits into a pot and blended the shit out of them. It’s definitely music for the A.D.D. generation.
The vocalist Justin Brown keeps switching from dying Cookie Monster vocals, to just... talking? I guess it gets pretty tiring making that haggard tone after a while. The talking part seems like he is going to slow things down and say something of some importance, but he just ends up spouting something out like “And I’m heading for the hills, flying away I’m free!” That doesn’t sound very metal of you, Justin. Maybe you should head for those hills and just play where I don’t have to hear you.
I am a sucker for wicked metal riffs and righteous solos, but they change up the riffs so often, it’s like they assume I will be bored after a few seconds. Well, your assumption is partially correct. I did get bored, but with the album as a whole.
