2 Chainz - Based on a T.R.U. Story

Def Jam

This marks the debut of a proper 2 Chainz album, after releasing solo mixtapes as Tity Boi as well as 2 Chainz. He’s got a pretty stacked crew of guest vocalists on this record, including Drake, Kanye West, The-Dream and Lil’ Wayne. There are some heavy bass lines, and a few interesting beats on the record, one of which is the booty-slammin’ track “Birthday Song.” 2 Chainz just wants a “big booty ho” for his birthday. Kanye wants one too, I guess. The verses aren’t life changing or anything, but they get pretty ridiculous.

“Extremely Blessed” is guaranteed to be silky smooth, considering it features R&B “Radio Killa” The-Dream. The beat is minimal, and has The-Dream singing the most sultry vocals. It just makes you want more of The-Dream. When’s his album coming out?

“I Luv Dem Strippers” is a real brain-melter. It’s not so bad at first — 2 Chainz is just rapping some goofy verses — but when Nicki Minaj comes on the mic, things get truly idiotic. Her moronic cartoon schtick really ruins the vibe.

Overall, this could be a stronger release from an interesting rapper if he didn’t rely so heavily on guest vocalists.
