The Let Them Know box set is a celebration of punk rock stalwart Youth Brigade's 25th year of delivering passionate music to the masses. Offered in two versions (a 6x12 book containing the CD and DVD or pricier 12x12 box with two LPs, DVD, CD and a larger book), it's a bit of a mixed blessing, however. The DVD boasts a stunning feature-length chronicle of the blood, sweat and tears poured into Youth Brigade, BYO and other bands over the last quarter-century. Compelling and sincere, its tale of dedication would grip even the greatest punk detractor. Conversely, though, while equal amounts of toil went into the CD, it's sadly inferior. Striving to cover all bases, the band forgoes offering deleted or collectible Brigade/BYO material, opting to let bands like Bouncing Souls, NOFX, 7 Seconds, Pennywise, Lagwagon and other forgettables select catalogue tunes to re-record. While some do the tracks justice, the majority, well… why not just put on the original? The result? Let Them Know is an invaluable film-book package saddled with a forgettable “bonus” CD.
