Young Ones -Young Ones

self-released

It’s true — the Young Ones have teeny boppers swooning for their dapper style and leather jackets. Unfortunately, their new batch of poppy tunes leaves something to be desired for the musical palate. The EP is the first followup from their full-length released earlier this year.

“Savages” sets the direction for the next five songs with a simple rhythm held down between the bass and drums and clean Nick Valensi-inspired guitar riffs.

In the midst of consecutively formulated songs “Boardwalk,” “Waves” and “Downtime,” there are glimpses of talent that show the tightness that has got the Young Ones where they are today.

The downfall for this alternative rock band could very well be the lack of variety between each song due to the lead vocals. It becomes apparent during “Short Sighted” that the repetitive vocal harmonies don’t risk any chance of straying away from their generic droning tones.

Young Ones have found a groove that has catered to a minority of people, which in turn has solidified a well-established fan base. But with a subpar EP that takes no risks, one wonders if they will try to expand their sound.
