Fans of the Montreal-based Silver Mt. Zion have a belated Christmas present in store for them with this four-sided album, starting with a 15-minute epic, "There is a Light," an ambitious, sprawling affair with strings, tender choruses and lonesome imagery. Side 2 opens with the thunderous "Built Myself a Metal Bird," a bluesy booty-shaker whose crude refrain would have no less than Iggy Pop rolling his bones with glee. Quieter introspective fare like "'Piphany Rambler" closes out the album, demonstrating that the new-look Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, having weathered 2008's personnel changes, is attempting to straddle the art rock versus stoner rock divide once more.
