City of Champs shredmasters add another collectible curio to the merch table.
For each of their releases to date, The Famines have put as much effort into the meticulous packaging as the primitive riff-rock contained within. The Edmonton two-piece’s latest offering is 14 July, 2008, a seven-song live cassette bundled with a 268-page booklet chock-full of crime-scene-specific factoids surrounding the recording.
To give but a few examples, the back-pocket-sized tome contains the fingerprints and favourite drinks of every person involved, other famous July 14ths in history and even a blueprint of singer-guitarist-graphic designer Raymond E. Biesinger’s home business. Sure, most of this stuff is completely useless, but who cares when it looks this stylish and sounds like liquid magma?
